The new synagogue for Congregation Zemach David, represents a watershed moment for New Square, the all-Hasidic village in the town of Ramapo, Rockland County, New York. Combining tradition with monumental architectural achievement, the project blends a ground-up four-story structure, a meticulous renovation of an existing building, and connection to a third, creating a sacred complex of unprecedented scale. Once completed, the synagogue will stand at over 200,000 square feet, making it the largest in America and the second largest in the world. With a 37,000-square-foot main sanctuary, the synagogue will comfortably accommodate up to 15,000 people.
The design honors heritage while introducing a modern sensibility to the village. The exterior is clad in Jerusalem limestone with striking bronze accents and windows, and interiors boasting imported natural stone, rich wood fixtures, and high-end lighting, all to elevate the design of this iconic synagogue. The project involves development of a 70,000 square foot addition to the Tish Building with a large column free space, interior balconies, and a full cellar throughout the building.
The design team specified ASI Group’s Alpaco™ Classic Phenolic Partitions and Urinal Screens throughout the synagogue for their design aesthetic, durability, and easy-to-maintain features.
“Finding the right manufacturer to fulfill our order and meet our timeline was not easy. We needed a very large quantity of partitions in a very short period of time. ASI Group was the only manufacturer who was able to meet our aesthetic and privacy needs and could deliver over three hundred toilet partitions to us on time. While others told us they would need five months to a year lead time, ASI Group’s Partitions arrived in just eight weeks.”
